To meet the revised FA’s Elite Players Performance Plan requirements for academies, Brentford located their new indoor training academy on the grounds of Uxbridge High School. This provided a sustainable solution for both the club and the school, having a single facility that they could both share. An additional benefit to the students was that they could attend academy training sessions without the need to travel. This not only saved time but also reduced carbon emissions. The ‘covered’ 50yrd x 60yrd pitch consists of a steel portal frame with insulated facades and roof to give an enhanced playing environment compared to a fabric structure. The scheme has been designed to allow for future expansion for both the club in terms of the pitch and facilities, and the school as additional classrooms can be easily added on top of the single storey accommodation block.
